Welcome to 2010!!

A glance at 2009

I can't believe it, but 2009 is over. The last year has been great. I picked out some photos from the year. Most are probably repeats, but I like them. This year is going out with a bang...

What's the plan for 2010? First and far most important, finishing my engineering degree. I need to get that off my back... I should be done in May. If the benz doesn't give out on me, I plan on chasing some snow this winter. I'd like to make it back to Utah and Tahoe and maybe up to Montana and where ever else the snow takes me. Hopefully a road trip and heli skiing home in AK in April. Last and definitely not least, I'd like to win the lottery.

Bring on 2010!

Tats lives a rough life.

Check out the article from the Idaho Mountain Express.

Free skier Chris Tatsuno won a dream-come-true pass to some of the best ski resorts in the Canadian Rockies this winter.

His 90-second Youtube video was chosen from 100 entries in the Kootenay Rockies Ultimate Ski Bum contest.

As the winner, he will receive eight season passes at eight resorts on Canada's "Powder Highway," including Revelstoke, Red Mountain and Fernie Alpine Resort.

Known as the "TatsMan in the TatsVan," the 26 year-old Sun Valley native will trade in his old ski-bum mobile for the use of a complimentary Dodge Nitro this season. He will be spending nights at his choice of 22 hotels along the way.

"The real kicker is the 16 helicopter and cat-track skiing operations up there. I get a free day of skiing with each of them," he said.

Tatsuno rides for Backcountry.com, Poc, Trew Gear, Discrete and Blizzard-Tecnica skis and boots. His winning video can be seen at Powderhighway.com/skibum.

"I'm a professional ski bum now," Tatsuno said.

Photos from Christmas

Christmas dinner was amazing. Jake charchol grilled the turkey and made the gravy. Billy carved the meat. Chris brought the ham. I cooked up some mashed potatoes. With a few other sides and plenty of wine, the feast was a success!

Where's the snow?

I think it's been close to a solid month now with no significant snowfall in Jackson. We've had several storm warnings that didn't pull through. Aside from AV where snow was made early season, it's hard to ski the upper mountain without hitting rocks. We've been getting dozens of skis everyday in the shop needing repair work. There's snow on the forecast for the end of the week... hopefully things flip around soon.

Merry Christmas!

Just another day in paradise. It's almost time for some breakfast and gifts. Alex and I are going skiing this morning in the Village followed by work in the shop this afternoon. Tonight will be good food, good drinks, and good friends- a potluck dinner at our place. Merry Christmas!

Tram Opening

Thanks to Julie, there is some documentation of yesterday's fun. I went to the mountain with the girls and hopped on the first box of the season. We got some good shredding in. Definitely need some more coverage though- we hit a lot of rocks.

Tree Cutting

I went out to Fall Creek Road with Annie and Alex to find a Christmas tree the other day. We found a little guy about 6 feet tall. It was a good adventure. To finish off the day we cooked a great dinner with some wine and finished off the night with some drinks. Solid.

Discrete Headwear

Julian Carr of Discrete headwear hooked me up with some Doyonators. Discrete has a unique style that stands out in a crowd. These beanies can be rocked on the slopes or around town- you can't go wrong either way. Check out www.discreteheadwear.com!

UTAH

Despite the coolant leak in the Benz, my quick trip to Utah was a success. I was able to meet up and ride with some good buddies from college.

I drove down Sunday night, rode Brighton Monday and Tuesday, and drove back to Jackson Tuesday night. I got slammed and double-ejected on Monday and am still aching from it today. We got pounded with snow Monday night and were able to ride knee to thigh deep on Tuesday. First real powder turns of the season so I was able to take my Atomic Blogs out for a test ride!

Here are a few photos from the trip. I didn't feel like lugging the SLR around on the slopes, but hopefully I can grab some photos from Sean to post soon.
