First Day in Teton Pass - Avalanche Bowl

On Friday, Brandon arrived in Jackson. He's in the process of working out an apartment and job, so he's living with us at the moment.

This morning I skied backcountry in the pass with Brandon and our next-door neighbor Erik. We drove to the top of the pass and parked in the main lot. It was almost full of cars.

We skinned South of the highway for about forty-five minutes until we reached Avalanche Bowl. The snow was blower. Light and fairly deep...deeper than everything else I had skied so far this season anyway. Being in a group of three allowed us to leap-frog down the run in longer segments. The best part of the run was rather short, but well worth it.

To get out, we decended down a long narrow path through the forest, over some creeks, and eventually onto a road. We continued to decend down the road until we reached the main road through the pass. Erik hitched a ride up to the parking lot to get the car and we returned to town.

I tried out my new Black Diamond Alias backpack with the Avalung today. I liked it a lot. It's a better size and fits better than my previous backpacks. The only downside, which is minor, is that the handle of my avalanche shovel seems to stick out a bit. My Dakine packs seem to have a better set-up for the handle.
